House. Mid-C16, altered in C17 and C20. Timber framed, plastered, roofed with handmade red plain tiles. 3 bays facing NW, with C17 external stack at right end and C19/20 external stack at left end. Full-length lean-to extension to rear, of which the left part forms an open loggia. 2 storeys. 3-window range of C20 casements. C20 door. Full-length jetty, plastered over, with 4 original brackets exposed. Gablet hip at each end of roof. Jowled posts, close studding partly exposed internally, edge-halved and bridled scarfs in wallplates. The interior was originally divided into a short left bay comprising the service end, and 2 longer bays comprising the 'hall' and cross-entry, with equivalent chambers over. The original front doorway is blocked; the original rear doorway continues in use with rebated doorposts and a hollow-chamfered 4-centred arched head. The partition wall to the left of the cross-entry has been removed, but had 2 doorways through, asymmetrically arranged; the chamfered bridging beam between the doorways does not exhibit evidence of a partition between 2 service rooms. On the first floor this partition remains, and exhibits original patterned daub. The binding beam across the 'hall' is moulded on both sides with an ogee and hollow, with one swept stop only. A wide opening in the studding indicates the position of a former original rear chimney, probably timber-framed; this is confirmed by woodsmoke staining on the wallplate. The tiebeam below the right gablet has been removed; ceilings have been inserted in the C17 in both upper rooms, the beams chamfered with lamb's tongue stops. Side-purlin roof with arched wind-bracing. The large wood-burning hearth at the right end has been reduced for a C20 grate. RCHM 10.
