Cross in churchyard
of St Peter, 7 m
- south from chancel
GV II
Churchyard cross. 1897. Limestone. Tapered octagonal shaft with
Rhomboidal plan tabernacle with ogee-headed trefoils and crocketted pinnacle
on square moulded base c.850 mm square, the whole c.3 m high. Tabernacle
bears figures of three Saints plus the shield of St Peter plus Sword. A
plaque records a restoration of 1897, but this seems to have been a substan-
tial replacement of an earlier cross; work was done at the cost of Mrs Dent,
then owner of Sudeley Castle, to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond
Jubilee. (Donaldson, D N, A Portrait of Winchcombe, 1978.)
