2.
Coming forward to the street from the side of the west tower is a churchyard wall
with railings which continues along the street on the south side of St James Church.
Probably early C19. The railings are of iron with spear motif to uprights and
sections divided by urn motif. The railings are supported by a low red brick wall
with plain pilaster buttresses. Main gate to south porch has elaborate cast iron
cresting forming an ogee with intersecting tracery and trefoils. Double gates
with circles containing scrollwork, urn motif on top. Another similar gate towards
east end of church also with ogee cresting.
Church of St James's and Railings and Gates to Churchyard form a group.
