Stables and coach-house adjoining to left. c1820 for Jarvis Empson; coach-
house lowered and re-roofed in C20. Brown brick with red rubbed-brick
dressings. Yorkshire slate roof to stables; asbestos roof to coach-house.
Stables rectangular on plan: 4 rooms with central entrance hall; forms north
side of stableyard; short wall links with single-room coach-house to left.
Stables: 2 storeys, 5 bays; symmetrical. Blind arcaded north front of full-
height round arches with 2-course impost band and rubbed-brick arches.
Round-headed entrance with Y-traceried panelled door flanked by windows with
flat arches: one with original 12-pane sash in recessed wooden architrave,
one with architrave surviving but glazing missing, one C20 window, one
boarded-up. First floor: segmental-headed openings with sills and wooden
architraves for former hatch doors. Plain brick frieze, stepped eaves.
Hipped roof. Stone-coped brick wall links with low 2-storey single-bay
coach-house: quoins, full-height elliptical-arched recessed panel with pair
of board doors with strap hinges beneath 2-course impost band and blocked
first-floor opening with ashlar sill. 2-course brick band above. Single-
pitch roof, sloping to rear. Right return has external staircase to first-
floor door with sash window to left (glazing bars missing) beneath rubbed-
brick flat arches. Rear of stable has central round-arched entrance flanked
by single segmental-headed doors and small windows; segmental-headed first-
floor openings. Partly disused and in decay at time of resurvey.
