Hotel, built as large town house. Early C18, but with large mid- late C17 chimney stack on left side. Late C19 additions on front left and rear. The main block is red brick with vitrified headers. Gauged red brick lintels. Plain tile hipped roof. 3 storeys. 6 flush sash windows in moulded frames. 2 floor bands. Excellent wooden doorcase towards left. Door of 8 fielded panels in moulded wood frame and with rectangular fan. Fluted Corinthian pilasters carry an enriched architrave which curves upwards at the centre. Broken segmental pediment with enriched modillions and in tympanum a vase relief with swags of fruit and flowers draped on either side. The chimney stack is in darker red brick and has an ovolo cornice near the top of its base. To rear of main block is a 2-storey C18 block 3 windows wide. Behind that is a late C19 range with canted bay window. Mauve brick with red lintels. Similar style extension on front left has a gabled bay of casement windows facing S. Interior was modified in an open-plan Wren style in late C19 or early C20, but outer walls have original fielded panelling. Large C18 fireplace to rear wall of S ground floor room. Formerly called Welcombe.
