House, formerly Dower House to Newsells Park. Circa 1700. altered and
extended c.1830 and late C19. Red brick. Steeply pitched 2-span tiles
roof. Double pile, originally 5 bays, altered to 3 bays. 2 storeys,
cellar and attics. Plinth with a cellar window to right. Ground floor:
steps up to central entrance with half diamond glazed, half raised
panelled door, recessed with panelled reveals and soffit, reeded
architrave with corner roundels, flat hood. Large 6:9 pane sashes with
margin lights, reeded architraves with corner roundels, segmental heads.
Plat band to first floor with three 16 pane flush moulded frame sashes.
Straight joints in wall mark original fenestration. Eaves cornice. Outer
bays have 2 light hipped dormers. Extruded end stacks with offsets and
rebuilt cogged caps on front range. Similar stack on left end of rear
range is internal. Right return has recessed sashes. Left return has 1
storey late C19 addition. 2 gables with ridges parallel to main block.
French window to front, sashes on return, one tripartite, attic light
towards rear. Rear elevation is 3 bays with fenestration altered as at
front. Ground floor: central raised 6 panelled door with a rectangular
fanlight, moulded brackets to hood, to right a 6 light mullion and
transom leaded casement with a segmental head, to left 2 light windows.
First floor glazing bar sashes. Three 2 light hipped dormers. Kneelers
to rear end of rear gables. I storey lean-to to rear left. Interior not
inspected. (Pevsner 1977: RCHM Typescript). Newsells Park House is not
listed.
