AYLTON CP - SO 63 NE 5/3 Barn about 60 yards north- east of Aylton Court

GV II

Barn. Probably late C17 - early C18. High rubble plinth, timber-framed with brick infill three panels high and slate roof. Six structural bays aligned roughly east/west. South elevation: full-height ledged doors slightly left of centre; late C19 cowshelter (not included) masks right hand side, diagonal struts to left hand side. Interior: trusses have angle struts from ties to principals or V-struts from collars supported by three struts except for that to east side of threshing floor which has a cambered tie-beam carrying two queen struts supporting an interrupted collar from which rises another pair of queen struts to an upper collar supporting V-struts. Forms a continuous range with the adjacent former stables, now a cowhouse (qv) which encloses the north side of the farmyard. (RCHM, Vol II, p 9).
