House divided into two dwellings. C15 with mid-C17, early C19 and late C20 alterations and additions. Timber-framed, mainly faced in brick, some rendered and painted brick infill, plain tiled roof. A medieval open hall house of three framed bays aligned east/west; large sandstone and brick chimney inserted to west of central bay with brick ridge stack; also C17 single-bay addition to rear west end. Two storeys with dentilled eaves cornice. Framing: cruck-framed; framing of main part not visible externally. Rear wing of two and three panels from sill to wall-plate; collar and tie-beam truss at south gable end. North front elevation: ground floor has two 2-light casements, two 3-light casements and a single-light window, all with cambered heads; first floor has two 3-light casements and a 2-light casement; ledged and battened door with cambered head to right of original east end bay in probable through-passage position. The east end has been extended by the addition of a C20 bay with large double doors and a first floor 2-light casement in its south elevation. Interior: three pairs of full crucks survive but the lower part of the south blade of the west end cruck has been severed; timber-framed partition divides original east bay longitudinally and was probably former buttery and pantry partition; large back-to-back fireplaces, now blocked on west side; hall has an inserted cross-beamed ceiling with large chamfer stops. C20 addition to rear left. The house is prominently situated on the south side of the churchyard of the Church of St John the Baptist (qv).
