Milestone. Circa early C19. Painted stone with cast-iron plates. Square stone with cast-iron plates on two sides inscribed: Whitchurch 10, Winchester 22 and Newbury 2. The Winchester and Newtown River turnpike was opened in 1762 and this is one of a series of milestones on the turnpike.
A good example of a circa early C19 milestone with inscribed cast-iron plates.
