(South Side)
The Chantry
TL 8641 3/132 3.3.52.

GV I

A very interesting restored C15 house, 2 storeys and attics and cellars,
timber-framed and plastered, roofs tiled, cross wings east and west with
upper storeys projecting. The east cross wing also projects on east side
on Plough Lane and this wing has some of the best original features. It
has fine corner post carved with an angel and a carved bracket above,
and on east side remains of shafts and carved capitals supporting the
brackets of the upper storey. The front has been a great deal restored
and the modern tracery of the lower windows matches with the detail on
the adjoining Salters Hall. Timber-framing exposed. NMR photos.

No.16, St. Mary's, No.19, The Chantry and Salter's Hall form a group.
