Description

TM 48 SW WESTHALL WANGFORD ROAD

3/48 Sunnyside Farmhouse
-

- II

Former farmhouse. Late C16, with C17 and C18 additions. 2 storeys, part with
attics; irregular form. Timber-framed core, encased in late C19 red brick;
clay pantiles. An internal chimney-stack, partly rebuilt, partly rendered.
3-light C20 replacement casement windows; entrance door within an enclosed
gabled brick porch. The house has developed in at least 4 stages, and even
the main range has variations in ceiling heights which suggest differences in
date; this range contains a blocked 5-light mullioned window and a main beam
with deep chamfer and pyramid stops,reversed braces, and some replacement of
studding. The C18 extensions to the house both have butt purlin roofs, and on
the south side the walls have primary braces and bisected studs.
