Garden feature. Probably 1897 by Francis Inigo Thomas for Lindsay Lindsay-
Hogg. Rubblestone brought to course and ashlar; statue probably of composite
stone. Double flight of steps turning to meet at centre and rise a short way as
a single flight. Retaining wall has square-sectioned piers flat coping and
central balustrade; an arched opening below each upper-flight of steps and at
centre a keyed round-arched niche with impost band and statue of Greek woman
carrying jug in front of the retaining wall is a shallow pool, the front retain-
ing wall having a central bow. Part of the garden setting for Rotherfield Hall
(qv) the garden being listed Grade II* in the Register of historic Parks and
Gardens of Special Interest.
