Church. Chancel C14, south aisle and porch perhaps C15,
additions in C18, west tower and spire 1810-11, north aisle
1833, rebuilt in part 1900-5. West tower has 2-light Y-
tracery window and 2-light bell openings over 3-face clock;
parapet with blind arcading, gargoyles, and needle spire.
South aisle has embattled parapet, porch with 4-centred
arched entrance and niche above. The Salisbury chapel, 1739-
40, has a south window of 3 lights and a 2-light square-
headed east window; the aisle itself has cusped 2-light
square-headed windows. North aisle has 3-light segmental-
pointed windows and a 7-light window to the Plumbe Chapel of
1777, an ornamental cornice and embattled parapet. North
chancel aisle is former vestry of 1753. Chancel has 2
straight-headed windows of 2 cusped lights; east window
probably C18.Interior: Nave arcades of 3 bays, octagonal
piers and double chamfered arches, the central one wider,
pier removed when Salisbury chapel built. West gallery
across nave and south aisle, C18. 3-bay arcade between north
aisle and north extension, 1833. 8 hatchments in nave and
north aisle. Nave roof has tie beams with tracery above.
Chancel roof is waggon vaulted. Royal arms of 1664 above
chancel arch. South aisle has 2 brasses to H. Norris (died
1524) and his wife. Remains of C14 piscina on south side of
chancel. Painted memorial to Major Pitcairn Campbell (died
1855), in north chancel aisle, a rare example. Porch has
stones from Saxon coffin. Norman capital embedded in wall of
north chancel aisle. Brass chandelier, 1737, in nave; C19
replicas in chancel. South aisle east window by Kempe, 1900-
5. The only remaining mediaeval church in Liverpool.
