Description

SD 91 SW CROMPTON HIGH CROMPTON 1/19 Top Green Hill Farmhouse and - adjoining barn - II Farmhouse. Mid to late C17, possibly 1649. Squared rubble with slate roof to house, asbestos roof to barn and graduated stone slate to rear wing which is largely rebuilt in brick. 2-unit plan with 2 storeys and barn adjoining to right. Doors to left and right have square-cut stone surrounds and a flat hood to the former. 4-light double- chamfered stone mullion windows on ground floor, under a continuous hood. 3-light chamfered mullion window on the first floor and a later flat-faced mullion window (with mullions removed). Blocked 1-light opening above door said to contain datestone. Rear wing has 2 and 4-light double- chamfered mullion windows and was at one time a separate cottage. Barn has opposed cart entries, both now blocked, and a C20 roof structure. Principal rooms have chamfered beams some with ogee run-out stops.
