Fire station. 1904-5. Designed by the Fire Brigade section of the London
County Council Architects' Department. Painted stone to groundfloor; brick
above. Slate mansard roof. 3 storeys plus roof storey. 7 bays. Entrance,
square headed, to third bay from left. 2 Appliance Room entrances, square
headed, to right, with replacement metal doors. 3 square headed sashed
windows to ground floor, now with plate glass windows. Cornice above ground
floor. Upper floors treated symmetrically with giant pilasters rising
through first and second floors, the centre pair more widely spaced than the
others and the centre bay surmounted by scrolly open pediment in brick.
Segmental headed paired sashed windows to first floor, except to centre bay,
which has triplet of square headed windows surmounted by segmental pediment
and prominent central keystone. Square headed paired windows to second floor.
Square headed dormer windows with segmental pediments, except to the centre
window which has triangular pediment in brick. Sashes; glazing bars, except
to ground floor. Brick dentil cornice above second floor. Tall slab
chimneys. Return to right with 3 circular windows, one set in single storeyed
rear block which has scalloped parapet.
