TL 51 SE MARGARET RODING CHELMSFORD ROAD

II

Rectory, early C19, extended during C19, now a private house. Gault brick,
Flemish bond, slate roofs. Square plan with entrance elevation to WNW. Square
corner wing added to NE, early C19, and single-storey stable wing with tiled
roof to NNE. Octagonal corner tower added to SE, late C19. 2 storeys. Entrance
elevation, central recessed double doors, glazed, with fanlight, in brick
porch. One late C19 sash window of 8 lights to N of it. 2 wall chimney stacks
treated as giant pilasters with recess under round arch in the front of each.
Above door, early C19 sash window with round arch, the whole forming a symmetrical
composition. Modillioned cornice, hipped roof of shallow pitch. N corner tower,
plain boarded door and early C19 12-light sash window with crown glass; on
first floor, early C19 16-light sash window with crown glass. Pyramidal roof
of shallow pitch. Garden (S) elevation with brick quoins on original building,
and at each floor a central round-headed niche. Late C19 bay with 3 sash
windows, and one late C19 sash window on ground floor, 2 on first floor.
Modillioned cornice, hipped roof of shallow pitch. Octagonal corner tower,
central french window, one sash window to each side and 3 on first floor.
Pyramidal roof of shallow pitch.
