Farmhouse, early C17 or earlier, altered in 1900, now house. Internal
cruck frame, walls of stone and brick (all painted white except west
gable), graded slate roof, with one chimney on the ridge and another at
the right gable. Four bay linear plan. Gable to road. One and a half
storeys; front (north) wall rebuilt in brick. Left gable has 2-light attic
window, right gable of coursed red sandstone with large quoins has modern
external chimney with attic window. Rear has gabled dormers to 2nd and
3rd bays, 4 small casements at ground floor and a very small oblong window
between the 3rd and 4th bays. Interior: full cruck trusses between 2nd
and 3rd, and between 3rd and 4th bays (the latter with a tie beam and a
collar severed to make a doorway) with some wind braces. Partition of
1st and 2nd bays is a thick battered stone wall, and there is a secondary
upper truss a short distance from its inner side. History: coin hoard
found in chimney during renovations in 1900 contained coins dating from
Edward VI to Charles I, the latest being 1645. (R. Eaton History of
Samlesbury 1936).
