7/102 Stables at Chalcot House
Stable block. 1870s, probably by J.P. St Aubyn for the Phipps
family. Flemish bond brick, tiled roof, brick stacks with moulded
stone cappings. Enclosing courtyard on three sides. Main range
has four inserted double planked doors with semi-circular headed
double carriage doors either side, attic has five 6-pane sashes to
gabled half-dormers, dentilled brick cornices and corbels for
rainwater gutter below windows. Square clock tower with tiled
tapered spire to roof. Flanking wings for stabling have segmental
or round-arched planked doors and segmental-headed 6-pane sashes,
lower roofs, half dormers with pigeon holes in gables. Outer
facing sides have segmental-headed sashes, main range has four
