Description

HEYTESBURY PARK STREET
ST 94 SW
(south side)
4/94 Mile post about 150 metres east of
junction with Park Lane

II

Mile post. 1840. Cast-iron. Classical style rectangular post
with low pedimented top, lettering partly defaced;
WARMINSTER/4/SALISBURY/17. Plinth bears initials C & M/W, probably
representing the firm Carson and Miller, ironfounders in Warminster
from 1820. Although radial turnpikes around Warminster were
established in 1726, this post is one of a series produced in 1840
when a Turnpike Act consolidated the roads radiating from
Warminster. (R. Haynes, Wiltshire Milestones in Leisure in
Wiltshire, 1968.)
