Circa mid C16 L shaped house with cross wing to east, to which a west wing was
added in early C17, forming U shaped plan. Steeply pitched plain tile roofs
with gabled ends. Two storeys. The early portion is of close studded timber
framing with painted render infill panels. On red sandstone foundations. The
main front to the south has three gables, the wide side gables are jettied with
coved soffits, and the smaller flush central gable of steeper pitch has a
barge-board with pendant and finial. Mainly early C19 three-light casements
with glazing bars. At west gable is a massive sandstone ashlar chimney stack
diminished by a series of splays to square brick shafts. The early C17 west
wing has been refaced in red brick in early C19. Modern timber-framed porches
at south (entrance No 1) and to east (entrance No 2). Interior: Five of the
original red sandstone fireplaces survive; four in No 2. All have almost flat
four-centred moulded arches, the mouldings continued down the jambs to splayed
stops. Fireplace in lounge to No 2 is 6 ft high with a moulded shelf. Contem-
porary oak panelling survives in lounges to both parts of the Manor. Some
medieval wall painting in No 2. In front of the house is a low sandstone ashlar
boundary wall with gate piers with ball finials.
