BONDGATE WITHOUT

(North Side)

NU 1813 SE 1/187

2.
C17 and C18 altered. Two storeys and 3 windows. Coursed rubble. Slate roof with
3 fretted bargeboard gables over windows. Single hung sash windows on 1st floor
with glazing bars in upper sashes. Two later square bays on ground floor flanking
central doorway: panelled pilasters to open pediment with blind radiating fanlight.
Low interior. At rear is a small courtyard with extensions to later 2 storey part
which has 2 Yorkshire sashes.
The house was built for a Catholic family and is reputed to have a priest's hole.
What is now shown as 'the priest's hole' is unconvincing - a blocked chimney breast
in fact.
