Early-mid C18 house of local mottled brick with pantiled roof, end chimneys.
Three storeys, two windows, large proportions. Second floor Yorkshire lights,
first floor small-paned fixed lights with sliding lower parts. Ground floor early
C19 sash windows with glazing bars in wood architraves. All have stuccoed lintels
and stone cills. At left, two stone steps to a C19 four-panel door with oblong
fanlight in contemporary quasi-classical doorpiece with bracketed cornice. Plaque
on front wall "An eighteenth century merchant's house with warehouse at the rear".
In fact the warehouse (qv) is behind No 19 but has access from the yard of No 17.
