House, C16, and C17, timber framed, rendered and colourwashed, brick, plain
tiles. In 2 builds, each of 2 cells single storey and attic. Openings
renewed c.1984 with replica oak mullioned frames, wrought iron casements
with replica C17 latches, lattice leaded lights. Principal facade to east:
lower C16 build to left, timberframed, rendered and colourwashed, plain tiles.
Ground floor with renewed brick plinth; 3-light casement opening to left,
doorway to centre left, C19 cross casement to right. 2 gabled roof dormers
with 3-light casements, that to left of 1983 to match dormer to right.
Higher C17 build to right: Flemish bond brick with sawtooth cornice, plain
tiles, crowstepped gable to right. 2 cells; lobby entrance with chimney
bay and off-centre axial stack to left; brick plinth with rounded cap; 4
cross casements to ground floor, 2 gabled roof dormers with 2-light
casements, date of 1729 renewed to gables. Central gabled porch with ledged
and battened door, both of c.1983. Right return gable in English bond,
earlier than main facade; on flint base; return projecting slightly east
and west; gable raised with crowsteps and jettied at quoins over earlier
gable. Single light with leaded lights to opening in earlier gable. Rear
with sawtooth cornice, some coloured headers, 3 openings, extension to right.
Interior: C16 build of 2 cells with studded partition. South gable end with
curved braces to tie, vertical studs; small ground floor opening, now
blocked, with wrought iron lozenge bars and renewed wood mullion, some wattle
and daub infill. C17 inserted floor with lambs tongue chamfer stops to
bridging beams; attic with queen post to central partition; 2-tier roof with
added collars; some diagonal braces; 42 cm chestnut floorboards. Doorway
to higher build to right through tie beam cut with two large dovetail joins.
C17 build to right: large stack with salt cupboard to right cell; right cell
of l½ bays. Nicked bar stops to chamfers of right cell beams, plain bar
stops to left cell. Attic with 3 tier roof of tennoned butt purlins and
collars, some braces to second tier, large wall plates, gable end ties and
ties to either side of stack.
