Chapel of ease. 1858-9. By A.D. Gough of London. Hammer dressed stone with ashlar dressings; shaped tile roofs with plain tile bands, crested ridge tiles and coped verges. 5-bay nave and south porch, North-west tower with broach spire; 2-bay chancel and single cell north and south chapels. Mainly late C13 style, windows mainly pointed with cinquefoil headed lights, geometrical tracery and hood moulds terminating in heads. North-west tower: 4 stages; pointed north door, 2-light window to west, semi-octagonal projection to east with a single- light trefoil-headed window beneath a pointed arch and moulded eaves with ballflower ornament to a hipped stone slate roof; second stage has single light trefoil-headed windows under pointed arch with hood mould over terminating in heads; blind quatrefoil within a circle to each side of third stage; belfry stage has 2-light louvred openings. Nave: 3-light windows, each bay division marked by a buttress, gabled south porch of timber on stone plinth, shaped and fretted barge boards. Chancel: Pointed east window of 5 lights the central one wide, incorporating a rose window over, blind pointed trefoil within a circle to gable, single-light north and south windows; single light windows to east and west of north and south chapels and 2-light windows to north and south with square heads and cinquefoil headed lights; octagonal projection to west of north chapel with single-light trefoil headed windows under pointed arches. Interior: Pointed chancel arch, chamfered outer arch and marble inner arch of 2 orders spring from marble shafts with naturalistic foliage to capitals and corbel bases, ball flower ornament between the 2 orders, pointed squints to each side of the arch, looking into the chapels flanking the chancel; between chapels and chancel are 3-bay arcades of pointed arches with cinquefoil cusping; arch braced collar roofs to nave and chancel with braced king posts and decorative cusping, arch braces spring from marble shafts with foliated caps and corbel bases. Fittings: Octagonal stone font with panelled sides; complete set of pews; octagonal wooden pulpit with carved foliage and ball flower ornament; choir stalls have poppyheads to ends; altar rail on twisted wrought iron stands with brackets in form of foliage.
