House. Late C16-early C17, altered. Timber frame with wattle and daub infill
now replaced by painted brick infill; painted brick. Plain tile roof. 2-storey
house of 2 bays with smoke bay at right end; chimney inserted C17; bay added
to right and front wall replaced late C18-early C19; 1960s 2-storey addition
to rear left; 1989 2-storey addition to rear right. Entrance front: 2 1st
floor windows. Plinth. Entrance on left side of right-hand bay has board
door protected by early C20 gabled porch of reused timbers with brick gable
and plain tile roof. To either side a segmental brick-arched window, that
on left with a side-sliding sash that on right with a 2-light small-pane case-
ment. Platt band. Two 3-light small-pane casements to 1st floor. Stepped
dentilled eaves. Roof half-hipped with gablet at left end. Old brick ridge
stack to right of centre (above former smoke bay). Rear: C20 additions not
of special interest. Main range has a 2-light window to right on each floor,
that on ground floor segmental-arched, that on 1st floor a side-sliding sash.
Left return: a 3-light window to ground floor; timber mid-rail; C20 2-light
lst-floor window; tie beam and collared queen post truss in gable; external
stack on left. Interior: former housebody (at centre) has chamfered joists
with stepped hollow chamfers; cambered, chamfered, timber bressumer to former
fireplace. In left bay, joists are of larger scantling with stepped run-out
stops to chamfers. 1st floor: smoke-bay rail has mortices in soffit from former
partition wall; cross-beam between left-hand bays also morticed from former
partition wall. Roof not fully inspected, but has smoke-blackened rafters
and the former right-hand closing truss has cambered collar, studs, and wattle
and daub infill.
