Detached house and studio. 1872. By T Batterbury and WF
Huxley. For the watercolour painter and wood engraver GG
Kilburne. Red brick with tiled roof, hipped with a flat
central section. Wide front of 4 windows grouped in pairs. 3
storeys and semi-basement. Entrance on right hand return. Left
hand ground floor bay window rising from basement with 3
lights (top panes stained glass) and tiled penthouse roof. To
right, paired, square-headed, recessed sashes with gauged
brick pointed arch recesses with pargeted flowers above.
Stucco 1st and 2nd floor sill bands. Recessed sashes to 1st
floor. 2nd floor similar to ground floor with pargeted
flowers. Right and left returns with deep, coved, plastered
eaves cornices with large pargeted flowers executed by
illustrator Frederick Barnard who lived at No.37 (qv).
