SU 11 SE FORDINGBRIDGE

1830/10/10003 Hills Corner

GV II


Cottage. C18; extended late C19 or early C20. Roughcast cob. Straw thatched roof with gabled and half-hipped ends. Gable-end stack with short brick shaft.
PLAN: 2-room plan, the larger left-hand room heated from gable-end stack and with direct entry from a doorway at the centre; the smaller right hand room is unheated. In circa late C19 or early C20 a single-storey outshut was built on the right [S] end.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. Almost symmetrical 2-window west front; small C19 2-light casements with horizontal glazing bars ; central doorway with plank door and later open timber porch. Internal stack on left [N] gable end. Late C19 or early C20 single-storey lean-to outshut on right [S] end.
INTERIOR: Ground floor rooms have axial beams and exposed joists, the north room has fireplace with shelf on brackets and cupboards to left and right with plank doors. Staircase at rear rising from north room has plain balustrade at top with stick balusters and square newel. Plank doors. Attic ceiled and with matchboard partition. Roof structure not accessible
