(Formerly Listed as:

(consec))

II

Terraced houses. Early C19. Painted mathematical tiles with
straight joins, stucco to some bays. Roofs of slate.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and dormer over basement. One window each.
The design of each unit adheres to a common type, a
description of which follows. Steps up to flat-arched entrance
with overlight framed by Tuscan pilasters from which spring
scroll brackets to support a boxed cornice porch. To left
rises a full-height segmental bay; all windows are flat arched
and all bay windows are tripartite; sashes of original design:
6 x 6 to centre windows and 2 x 2 to sides. Single window to
basement under bay. On ground floor of No.20 the original
segmental bay replaced by canted bay; above this the spandrels
of bay are faced with stucco; sashes of second floor are late
C19 or early C20. No.23 appears to have been altered at least
twice later in the C19: entrance flanked by fluted Tuscan
pilasters, its cornice porch plainer than the rest; to left of
entrance a very broad segmental bay with fluted Tuscan
pilasters at the join with the front wall; ground-floor bay,
which may date to late C19 or early C20; the first-floor
segmental bay is narrower than that to the ground floor and
not on the same axis; the first-floor bay has floor-to-ceiling
windows with sashes of original design, 6 x 6 to centre and 4
x 4 to sides; balcony to bay only. The segmental bay to the
second floor is narrower still, but on the same, central axis
as that to the first floor and identical to segmental bays
elsewhere in the terrace; parapet and coping raises this unit
above the rest in the terrace. Eaves to Nos 20, 21 and 22,
each with a single, flat-arched C20 dormer to the roof. Stacks
to party walls.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
Railings to areas and stairs of all but No.23, the area of
which has been taken up with the broad ground-floor bay.
