Railings and retaining wall to park

GV II

Railings, gates and low retaining wall enclosing north and
east borders of park in Dorset gardens. Late C19. Cast-iron;
wall of flint and cement. Most of the uprights are circular in
section with a conical spearhead top. Every 16th upright is
larger, square in section and has a spearhead top; each of
these is stiffened by a scroll bracket anchored in a buttress
on the park side of the wall. Horizontal runners above wall
and just under heads of uprights; shorter spiked uprights
between each full upright. There are 4 gates, the stanchions
of each square in section, with studded bosses and a studded
spear top: gates opposite Nos 11, 14 and 19-20 (qv except
No.11 and Nos 19-20 which are not included) are for
pedestrians; the remaining gate wider, for vehicles.
Included for historical and group value.
