Public house. Mid-C19 with late C19 alterations. Stucco, roof
obscured by parapet.
EXTERIOR: 4 storeys, 2 windows. Ground floor pub front of
c1900 with composite pilasters of grey granite supporting
fascia with modillion cornice and console stops. Flat-arched
entrance to left set back with side-lights, overlight and
original panelled and glazed door; left flank wall of porch
has glazed, moulded and coloured tiles; wrought-iron screen
over porch; 2 flat-arched entrances to north corner with
original panelled doors; windows have c1900 glazing to lower
part, but no engraved or decorative glass; upper storey has
rusticated pilaster strips and canted bays to 3 floors; sill
band to second and third floors; modified cornice; parapet;
side stack.
INTERIOR: the interior retains some late C19 or early C20
fittings in the lower bar, notably a curved bar front; bar
back with unusual central arch with scrolled brackets and
ornate pediment over, mirror-panels to either side flanked by
fluted Ionic columns supporting bowed entablatures and
mirror-glass to toplights; late C19 fireplace between bar
front and stairs; panelled and bowed screen to stairs with
fluted tapering column supporting round arch to stair with
pierced spandrels, 2 excellent curved and round-arched
engraved glass panels to staircase screen, one a replacement.
