The Malt House

GV II

House. C17 with long late C18/early C19 addition to south-west
and later alterations. Timber-frame with brick infill; gabled
old tile roofs with brick lateral stack with diagonal shafts
and stack to front of ridge. Main range plus cross-wing to
left.
EXTERIOR: single storey plus attic; 4-window range plus later
5-window range. Entrance to right of centre has plank
stable-type door in wood frame; inserted entrance with glazed
door to right. Varied fenestration, most with leaded glazing:
ground floor has 3-light casement to wing, 3-light casement to
right of wing and 2 small 2-light casements flanking entrance;
2 small lights to right end; first floor has pair of 2-light
casements to wing and 3 gabled dormers, with 3-light casement
flanked by 2-light casements.
Addition has segmental-headed windows with C20, mostly
2-light, casements, with 3-light casement to left and 2 gabled
dormers; 3-light casements to return and single-storey rear
wing.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
The house probably appears on a painting of c1696 hanging in
the great hall of Charlecote Park (qv).
