Barn and cowshed, house now granary, and cartshed. Dated 1684.
C18 additions and alterations. Stone rubble. Plain clay tiles.
L-shaped plan. 2 storeys and single storey and loft.
BARN: 3-bay range with hayloft. North-west side facing
farmyard has 4 partly chamfered oak door frames, 2 with plain
boarded doors, 2 blocked. Gable end with pitching hole and
vent slots. Rear side with 3 small ground-floor window
openings and doorway.
INTERIOR: double trenched-purlin roof with 3 trusses. 2 twin
raking-strut trusses with cambered tie beams, one reusing
cruck blades. Truss to interior abutment to granary adapted
from former external truss: cambered tie beam, 4 vertical
struts, collar and twin raking struts. Posts only survive of
former square framing below tie-beam level.
GRANARY: 2-storey C17 bay now with roof shared with adjacent
barn, with 2-bay C18 cross wing extension. Gable of C17 bay
with oak transom window opening with double top lights and 2
flanking blocked windows. Blocked and part-blocked openings at
ground level. Inscribed tablet set in gable end. Return side
has 2-light transom window. Cross wing: rubble stone granary
steps with ashlar treads up to plain boarded door with
chamfered frame. Mullion and transom first-floor window (with
pivoting mullion). Simple opposing ground-floor oak door
frames. Tablet on granary gable: I . S/ T S S/ 1684.
INTERIOR: C17 bay has double purlin roof. C18 bays have single
trenched purlin roof with twin raking-strut trusses, bridging
beam and chamfered door frames.
CART SHED: open-gable C18 extension bay to granary of stone
rubble flank walls and king-post truss. Bay partly extended
under granary first floor. Tablet on granary gable: I . S/ T S
S/ 1684.
