Market Place early C17; Nos 1 & 3 East Street mid C16 and
early C17: altered in C20; C20 shop fronts. Timber framed,
plastered and colourwashed: front roof of black glazed
pantiles, rear of pantiles: No.25 Market Street roof hipped at
front.
EXTERIOR: market Place front: 2 storeys and dormer attic.
Early C20 plate-glass shop front returned along East Street:
3-light window on first floor: flat-topped dormer has C20
window. East Street return has one 6/6 unhorned sash to first
floor.
East Street front: 2 storeys, 2-window range. Mid C20
plate-glass shop front with glazing bars: entrance doorway to
right. First floor has one 3-light casement to right and C20
4/4 unhorned sash to left, replacing mullioned C17 window.
Roof has late C20 roof-light to right. In centre, gable-head
of C16 range rises over roof line.
Rear: 2-storey range with C20 modifications to exterior.
INTERIOR: generally opened out into contiguous retail showroom
in C20. Market Place range with jowled principal studs to
timber frame; bridging beams with sunk-quadrant mouldings.
East Street range with a mid C16 wave and hollow moulded
bridging beam to ground floor. Jowled principal studs of heavy
scantling; chamfered bridging beams and wall plates. Rear
wing: bridging beams and joists with sunk-quadrant mouldings.
