TIVERTON

SS91SE CHETTISCOMBE
848-1/7/60 Chettiscombe Farmhouse

II

Farmhouse. Probably 1840s. Red brick laid to English bond;
steep dry slate roof with projecting eaves and verges and
exposed purlins and rafter ends; 2 axial brick stacks with
diagonally-set shafts with cogged cornices: 5 shafts to the
left-hand stack, 2 shafts to the other stack. Tudor Revival
details. 3-room plan plus short service wing at right angles
to rear right and another wing at lower level left of house.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys plus attic; 4-window range. Square
hoodmoulds over original moulded 2-light mullioned windows
with 12 panes per light. Ground floor has similar windows and
4-bay open verandah on iron stanchions. Doorway with planked
door to 3rd bay from left. Right-hand return has similar
windows with hoodmoulds: single light attic window over
2-light over 3-light.
INTERIOR: not inspected but likely to be as unaltered as the
exterior.
