Barbican.
Pair of large warehouses. c1800. Plymouth limestone rubble
walls with dressed quoins, jambstones and voussoirs to
segmental arches; 2 parallel dry slate roofs gable ends onto
the street. Large roughly rectangular plan, deeper than wide,
built into a slope at the rear.
2 storeys plus attic over basement; pair of symmetrical
2-window fronts with central loading doorways. Some openings
blocked but most, including those to right-hand return, with
original or old shutters and planked doors; openings grouped
closer to attic gables and with central loading hoists, one
with a ring; 4 basement openings with shutters and iron bars
and some ventilators with crossed iron bars.
INTERIOR: not inspected but likely to retain its original
floors and roof structures.
This is one of the most complete and unaltered warehouses left
in Plymouth.
