Pair of villas in planned group. Early C19 by John Foulston.
Stucco with stucco detail; dry slate hipped roof with
modillion cornice and pediment over the central 2 bays;
rendered end stacks. Double-depth plan plus deep service wings
at rear left and right and entrance porches set back to
returns.
2 storeys; symmetrical 4-bay garden front with plinth and end
pilasters. Late C19 sashes to No.9 (right) and C20 windows to
No.8, those to 1st floor under moulded hoods on consoles, the
ground-floor windows with corner pilasters, moulded
entablature, and turned balustrades above, the windows to
central bays are tripartite. Porches with moulded entablature
and paired columns to return elevations; No.8 with glazed
doors, No.9 with original panelled doors.
INTERIOR: not inspected but likely to be of interest.
Part of a good group of villas by Foulston, set within their
original landscape and thus remarkable in a national context.
