Semi-detached villa, now offices. c1810-40, with extension
c1980s to rear (not included). Ashlar over brick with hipped
slate roof; stuccoed party-wall stack. Double depth plan.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 1:2:1 first-floor windows. End porches
break forwards at ground floor with tetrastyle Ionic loggia
between surmounted by continuous low balustrade having sunk
panels over entrances, otherwise vase balusters; Entrances
alike: 3 roll-edged steps to renewed 6-panel doors with
fanlights with radial glazing bars in stepped reveals and with
pilaster strips with sunk panels. Ground floor, wall to rear
of loggia has horizontal rustication; two tripartite windows
with tall 6/6 between 2/2 sashes in plain reveals and with
sills, with cornice on console brackets. First floor: bays
over porches are set back and have 6/6 sashes; central range
has pilasters to ends and central sunk panel inscribed 'PILLAR
HOUSE'; two tripartite windows with 6/6 between 2/2 sashes in
plain reveals and with cornice on console brackets. Returns
have 6/6 sashes.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
A notable example of a semi-detached villa with a distinctive
Ionic colonnade. Groups with No.138 Thirlestaine House (qv).
