Two shops. c1820-50 (at right) and c1880-90 (at left) with
later additions and alterations including ground-floor facade
at right c1960s. 3 storeys, 7 first-floor windows, with ranges
to rear. Pinkish-red brick in Flemish bond, with hanging
slates to stair turret at rear and stale roofs; tall brick
off-centre left party-wall and off-centre right stacks; lead
rainwaterhead. Windows: first- and second-floors have 6/6
sashes in plain reveals, with sills and flat arches of gauged
brick. Ground floor: continuous shop front to centre and left
has six pilaster strips with corbels. plinth, fielded panels
below windows. Continuous frieze and cornice. At left are
double doors with fielded panels and pierced upper panels;
three plate-glass windows. 4-panel door with overlight,
off-centre right. To right part: plank door with open
overlight. Recessed shop front has plate glass window and
glazed door. Rear retains 6/6, 8/8 and 3/6 sashes. Fallpipe
and rainwaterhead to front at right.
INTERIOR: right part has open newel staircase with rod-on-vase
balusters and turned newel posts; further service staircase
from ground to first floor has stick balusters; shaped
architraves and sills; several marble C19 fireplaces and
grates to first and second floors. 4-panel doors.
HISTORICAL NOTE: formerly the Globe at right. Joselands, wine
and spirit merchants at left, c1884.
