House, now hotel. c1760 with later additions and alterations.
Brick in Flemish bond, colourwashed, with ashlar doorcase,
keystones, cornices, urns and sills; concealed roof and
pinkish-brown brick end stacks with oversailing courses,
modillion cornices and pots. Double depth plan with central
hallway.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys plus attic, 1:3:1 first-floor windows.
Central bay breaks forward and has wide pediment. 2/2 horned
sashes throughout in plain reveals and with sills and flat arches
of gauged brick and with panelled keystones. Modillion cornice.
Pediment has 3-light semi-circular window with round arch and
keystone; pediment surmounted to apex by draped urn, with 2
smaller urns to ends of pediment; parapet to outer bays
surmounted by embellished end ball finials.
Central entrance: flight of renewed steps to 6-panel door, the
lower panels flush-beaded otherwise raised and fielded, fanlight
wit radial lazing bars; doorcase has three-quarter engaged Ionic
columns and open dentil pediment. Further 6-panel door to right,
the lower panels flush-beaded and upper panels glazed, with
divided overlight and flat arch and keystone. Basement opening to
left with plank cover. Raised and curved gable ends.
INTERIOR: noted as retaining Minton tile floor to hall and with
some original plasterwork.
HISTORICAL NOTE: this was the home of Bishop Core from 1902-1905.
