GV II

Hall house, now public house. Mid C15, altered and extended
C17, C18 and C19.
MATERIALS: Part timber frame encased in painted brick, part
painted brick. Old tile hipped and gabled roofs of various
heights over different builds.
PLAN: Irregular plan, original rectangular plan of 2 framed
bays, extended on south and west with 2x2 framed bays, and
further extended on north and south.
EXTERIOR: part single storey, part 2 storeys. 2 chimneys with
clay pots. Sash windows with glazing bars, C19 and C20
casement windows with glazing bars. Entrance (east) front:
left hand section C18, taller 3-bays with parapet. First bay
on first floor blocked. Entrance in right hand bay has 6-panel
door in moulded doorcase, top 2-panels in door glazed,
overlight with interlaced glazing bars, pedimented hood over
on wooden brackets. Centre section has single bay cross gable
on left, formerly jettied, having canted bay on ground floor
with 3 sash windows, and 3-light casement on first floor. On
right of this, 2-bay section with two 3-light windows on first
floor, one 3-light and one 2-light casement window on ground
floor with planked door between, now disused. Right hand
section has single storey with dentilled brick eaves and with
C20 entrance door on left.
INTERIOR: most of timber frame visible in older section. Large
joisted ground floor, partly with C17 inserted ceiling.
Redundant crown post roof, jowled posts. Large C17 inserted
chimney and fireplace in second framed bay.
