Full length rear outshut. 2 storeys. Front faces garden to right: a 3-window range at 1st floor of 3 6/6 sashes. To ground floor a 6/6 sash with some crown glass either side a central 6/6 sash with arched head. Decorative head to arch. The parapet corners above are made a feature with short elements of cornice and stone-topped kneelers above. Gable end to street has part-glazed door with moulded wooden doorcase and window to right. A 6/6 sash over. Rear is blank. Left end has single storey service wing with C20 part-glazed door and window.
INTERIOR retains a small open-well staircase, the balustrade with tuned newel, stick balusters and ramped handrail. Elaborately shaped tread ends. Low cupboard under stair has raised and field panels and H and HL hinges. A bedroom has contemporary fireplace with wooden surround and cast-iron grate. Softwood butt-purlin roof with collars and carpenter's marks. Under the small service wing is a low cellar with curved brick vault and shallow arched bins to sides.
HISTORY. A Mr.Francis Pank and his sister bought the property on 6 October 1794 and it is likely that the house already existed. It was subsequently known as Pank's Lodge and owned by several members of the family. It has been known as Holly Cottage since at least 1848.
This is a comparatively little-altered house of the period with internal features surviving and one which forms a good group with West Cottage (q.v.) next door.
