Puxton Mill
II
Mill building. 1860s or 1870s. English bond brick with a plain tile roof. The building is set against a steep cliff of sandstone which borders the river. This means that there are 4 floors to the river front and only 1 1/2 floors to the roadway. Materials are English bond brick with a plain tiled roof. The river front is of 5 symmetrical bays with a central door and round-arched, metal-framed windows. The right and left flanks are gabled. There is a slight batter to the lower wall. Attached to the right reveal and recessed is a 3-storey building with door and chimney which may have served as a boilerhouse and belt run.
Interior: The floors have solid beams and there are metal supports [which may be later] and metal hooks but no evidence, other than holes in the walls, of machinery.
This is a fine C19 mill building which is simply detailed but well proportioned. Although it is unfortunate that the machinery has been taken out, the floors are largely intact, as are the iron window frames and the building is of the mid-C19 type of which there are relatively few examples remaining in Kidderminster.
