Pair of semi-detached villas. c1860.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, concrete tile roof to No.28 and slate to No.29.
PLAN: Compact block with gables to street, and with small attached porch at sides, sloping site enables full height extra floor to be developed at rear.
EXTERIOR: Two storeys, attic and lower ground floor. Central pair of sash windows to ground and first floors with moulded cornices on console brackets above; single window to second within gable. All windows are plain plate glass sashes over sills with brackets Continuous platbands at first and second floor levels all round. Set back small porch with hipped roof, with panelled door to plain fanlight in moulded archivolt with key, and plain impost band. No.29 has small dormer above. Main returns have small dormer above first floor sash, and rear has single light to gable, above paired sashes, tripartite sash to ground and lower ground floors. Gables and eaves have deep soffits, and two large square ashlar stacks to central valley. Arcaded front wall of openwork masonry, with arch-headed gate-piers with incised ornament.
INTERIORS: Not inspected.
HISTORY: Identical with adjoining Nos 30/31 (qv). Part of a development overlooking the railway station, consisting of Italianate villas on a steeply sloping site.
