Large house. Early C19.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar, slate roof.
PLAN: Wide frontage house, with lower ground floor to rear, garden front, developed across sloping site.
EXTERIOR: Two storeys, attic and lower ground floor, three-window main front, with single bay wing each side. Dormers in mansard roof, with four-pane sashes to moulded architraves above plain sash with cast iron flower guards, plain sash with central eight-panel door in segmental arch, with transom light, in deep reveals, lower ground floor has two lean-to glazed lights, left. Ground floor channelled, with deep mid band, four panelled pilasters, inset from ends at first floor, cornice, blocking course and parapet, coped gables with deep ashlar stacks. To left single storey wing with six-pane arched sash with swagged radial bars, with blocking raised above window, left of this steep flight of external steps to rear of house. To right similar single bay, but faced with wide hipped conservatory. Ashlar rear has two four-pane dormers above plain sashes, with arched centre light to staircase, at two levels, lower arched light opening to landing with railings, two platbands, cornice, blocking course and parapet. North end two storey single bay extension.
INTERIOR: Recorded by Bath Preservation Trust 1990¿s. All doors, panelling and cupboards in downstairs rooms have Greek key motif. Front door has same motif, complete with early corkscrew security chain device (actual chain no longer in situ); complete version survives in outhouse below the garage which was once a stable or coach house. Staircase: Victorian upstairs and Georgian downstairs. One of the grander houses in a long mixed terrace.
