House, now flats. c1777, with late C19 and C20 alterations. By John the Younger.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar to front, ashlar, rubble and rendered to rear. Double pile parapeted roof is mansard covered in artificial slate to rear with alterations to front to form slate-hung front elevation with flat roof terrace, covering not visible behind parapet, coped party wall to left with two ashlar stacks with some early clay pots.
PLAN: Staircase to front.
EXTERIOR: Four storeys, attic and basement, three-window range. First floor has three plate glass horned sashes in splayed ovolo moulded architraves with friezes and cornices, lowered moulded stone sills on console brackets. Second floor has three similar sashes in ovolo moulded architraves with stone sills. Third floor has two similar sashes in plain reveals with stone sills. Ground floor has to left two plate glass horned sashes in plain reveals with stone sills, to right six-panel door with fielded and single glazed panel, in altered stone doorcase with cut down cyma moulded architrave with moulded cornice on console brackets forming hood, pennant paved crossover flush with pavement, small three-pane window in plain reveal with stone sill to right of door. Basement has two six/six sashes in plain reveals with stone sills, door with flush panels and two-pane overlight in ashlar infilling under crossover, no area steps. Band course over ground floor, modillion cornice formerly at eaves over second floor, small hollow moulded cornice at eaves and coped parapet. Rear elevation has plate glass horned sashes, C20 windows in double dormer.
INTERIOR: Partially inspected by Bath Council 1974. Finely detailed cast iron fire surround on second floor and marble surround on the second floor. Fine ceilings on the first floor and double connecting doors.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: Attached wrought iron railings and gate on painted limestone bases.
