House, now shop. c1762, altered c1805. By Thomas Jelly, for Duke of Kingston¿s Estate.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar with Welsh slate roof.
PLAN: Double depth plan, but house was truncated on north when York Street was cut through Church Street in c1805, and now part of same address as No.2 Church Street (qv) and Ralph Allen¿s House, York Street (qv).
EXTERIOR: Three storeys, attic and cellar, two bays to Church Street and three on return to York Street. Ground floor to both elevations has mid/late C20 `Georgian¿ shopfront. Above, windows all six/six sashes in plain reveals. Modillion cornice and parapet, which travel round both elevations, double mansard roof with two gabled dormers with six/six sashes, authentic design and may be original. Tall stack with pots to right. Narrow rear elevation painted, single bay six/six sashes, modern extension to shop on ground floor. One flat topped dormer with six/six sash.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
HISTORY: This house appears to be part of the development leased to Thomas Jelly in 1762.
