A mid-C19 former lodge and stable block to Henley Lodge.
Lodge and former stables backing onto road. c1840 with C20 alterations.
MATERIALS: Limestone ashlar with a shallow pitched slate roof with moulded stack and exposed rafter ends to wide eaves.
PLAN: A rectangular range with a double-depth plan.
EXTERIOR: Two storeys, with a four-window south entrance front. There is a bay to the east which is gabled to the front and rear and projects to front and rear from main block, gable to street front has corbelled first floor moulded stack. To west block are two semicircular arched ground floor windows with small panes and bracketed sills. To first floor of west facade pedimented raised surround and bracketed sill to paired two-light, two-pane casement windows. Projecting east gable of the south front has similar first floor window and high ground floor platband over former carriage entrance, now with C20 glazing, to centre of west block smaller gable over semicircular arched small-paned casement window in raised surround, flanked by similar lower windows under eaves, below are similar, slightly taller windows with bracketed sills, to centre attached gate pier with modillion cornice and shallow pyramidal top.
INTERIOR: Not inspected.
This ancillary building was adapted for dormitory use in 1960, and extended in 1975. It complements its parent building and echoes its broad eaves and moulded window surrounds, thus forming an interesting group.
* Architectural interest: as a good example of a mid-C19 former lodge and stable block;
* Group value: with Henley Lodge, also listed Grade II, and the neighbouring Grade II listed buildings on Weston Road.
