1900 (dated); built for the Co-Operative Society. 2-storey range with Italianate details; late 20th century non-traditional shopfronts to ground; original cornice above. 4 key-blocked round-arched and 2 Venetian windows symmetrically arranged; linking string course at springing. Cornice and parapet; 2 prominent corniced and bracketed wallhead stacks; plaques at base of stacks carved 'AD' and '1900'. Buff sandstone ashlar.
W (REAR) ELEVATION: altered. Single storey dwellings on elevated ground.
INTERIOR: nothing original survives.
The ground floor has been significantly altered and the later shopfronts detract however the arched first floor windows and the prominent ashlar chimney stacks provide architectural interest to a building in a prominent town centre location.
