Description

John Kinross, RSA, 1898. 2-storey, rectangular plan,
gabled engine cottage sited on falling ground, away from
Carlekemp through plantation. Squared and snecked
Rattlebag rubble; ashlar dressings; applied timber
framing to jettied 1st floor. Moulded margins and
mullions.
W (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: doorway at left in ogival,
moulded surround. Tripartite at centre and small light to
right. 2 altered 1st floor windows.
N AND S GABLES: bipartite at ground to N. 4-light
windows in gableheads with embossed lead panels above
with quatrefoil details. Lead-paned sash and case
windows.
Modern porch addition to left of E elevation.
Glazing patterns altered, and 1st floor windows to E and
W. Overhanging eaves to Westmoreland slate roof. Stack
added. Timber barge boarding.

Statement of Interest

Bears similarities with Kinross's Boathouse, Manderston,

Berwickshire some years before. See Carlekemp, listed
