Description

Earlier to mid 19th century remodelling of early
cottages. U-plan, in single storey, group originally of
4 almost symmetrical farm cottages, now 2. Rubble red
sandstone with raised ashlar margins.
N ELEVATION: U-plan, doors in outer bays of projecting
wings each with windows to S, 2 windows in linking
range.
S ELEVATION: 6 bays. 2 centre bays advanced and gabled
with 2 windows and blind diamond in gable head. 2
windows flanking to each side with outer right window
altered from former doorway.
W ELEVATION: former doorway to outer right, now blocked.
Lying-pane glazing pattern to sash and case windows,
with plate glass to smaller openings. Boarded doors.
Diamond brick stacks to ridges with moulded coping and
paired on S range; wallhead stacks to E and W, off-sets
at W. Grey slates to piend roofs with lead flashings.

Statement of Interest

Hallhill steading, listed separately, sited to S,

both formerly serving Lochend estate. Gatepiers to

Lochend House close by cottages, also listed. Lochend

kennels to W not included in current listings.
